This is the website for the 2011 Berri Centenary celebrations and activities.

The town of Berri was proclaimed in the South Australian Gazette on the 9th February, 1911. Previous celebrations to commemorate Berri’s history have occurred, in 1936 and 1986 (25 years and 75 years respectively) and have been supported by Council. Barmera will celebrate its’ centenary on September 1st, 2021, ten years after Berri.

The 100 year celebration is a significant milestone in the district’s history and provides an opportunity for our history to be recorded, compiled and documented in book form as there has not been a substantial history written about Berri in more than 50 years (the last publication was ‘Berri, Hub of the Upper Murray’ in 1953).

The Centenary year is now over and this website is no longer being updated. The Centenary project produced a number of for sale items : the Berri centenary book called Berri : life in a river town, two special centenary editions of the Berri Community News, numerous memorabilia including postcards, book marks, key chains, glasses etc and most recently (in April 2012) a Berri Centenary DVD called Berri: memories of the first 100 years. Most of these items are still available to purchase from Berri Barmera Council offices and libraries. Phone the Berri Library & Information Centre on (08) 8595-2666 for more information.
